Homelab
Homelab
I run a small amount of infrastructure in my house and break it regularly. These are the notes.
Three kinds of thing live here. Guides are for something you could go and do. Build logs are how something I use every day got made. Incidents are what happened when I got it wrong, including the hours spent on the wrong theory, because that is the part nobody writes down.
The code and setup guides for things I have built live in homelab-builds on GitHub, one folder per project.
I am still learning all of this. Nothing here is written from authority.

A tab for the mountains, seven stations I do not own, and a map with moving wind.

A backup plan that survives the thing that kills backups
My only backup was on the same drives as the data. The nightly setup that replaced it.

All of Wikipedia, with pictures, in 119 GB. It works when the internet does not.

Weather apps suck, so I built my own
A weather page for my own hill, calibrated against my station. The bugs were the best part.

Reach your whole home network with Tailscale
A subnet router takes twenty minutes and opens no new ports. The highest-value change I have made.

The Two Trad Towers
I broke my server editing one line of config, then spent five hours breaking it worse.
